Sensory Deprivation

What is sensory deprivation?

BDSM toys

Sensory deprivation is limitation or complete deprivation the Submissive of possibility to use sense of touch, hearing, sense of vision, taste or sense of smell within a BDSM session.

Sensory deprivation is not a too difficult task which can be fulfilled without risk or with a minor risk for the Submissive. Usually sensory deprivation requires use of some BDSM toys.

What is good about sensory deprivation for the partners?

The main question is - what is sensory deprivation needed for? What limitations can be needed in a BDSM session where sensations are so important? There are a few reasons each in its way important either for the Dom or for the Submissive.

Control. By depriving the body of natural mechanisms of receiving information from outside and self -defense we considerably expand our possibility to control both the Submissive's body and soul. The Submissive becomes helpless whereas the Dominant acquires an additional mean to enhance his control.

Intensifying of other senses. When depriving a person of a sense the rest of the senses become more intensive thus compensating lose of information which is usually acquired from the blocked sensor. Do you know that blind people have better hearing than one with vision or that death are sensitive to vibration of some objects?

Expectation. By blocking a sensory you make the Submissive wait for coming events. We all know that expectation is one of the most effective means of control a Dom might have. It can considerably strengthen the Submissive's response to erotic stimulation. Add a few simple tricks and both the Dominant's and Submissive's pleasure is going to be great.

What to begin with

BDSM toys

Do you want to try sensory deprivation? Well you do not need any complicated devices. Everything you need is BDSM toys, common sense and your partner's good will. If you have all these things, including a partner than you can begin with the simplest ways of sensory deprivation.

Sight. To deprive your Submissive of sense of vision you certainly need a BDSM toy, the simplest being a mask. Surely most of you has ever tried to be blindfolded or to blindfold the partner. Well, you can use a simple scarf, but especial blindfolders make your play especially exciting.

Hearing. Here everything you need is ear plugs. Here there is quite minor risk, the main thing is not to insert the plugs too deep. As well you can use a BDSM toy, for example especial hoods.

Sense of smelling. Usually this is the last sense people decide to block. Very often the idea to deprive the submissive of sense of smelling is refused as use of some BDSM toys such as gags or other devices blocking the mouth imply that nose should remain open to give the Submissive ability to breath. Please, be careful when experimenting with nose.

Taste. Again this is not so difficult. Simple BDSM toys mentioned above - we mean gags are enough here, but make sure you are not trying to deprive your submissive of smell and taste simultaneously by blocking his or her mouth. Your aim is to deprive your Submissive of some senses, rather than to kill him.

Sense of touch. This is the most difficult matter about sensory deprivation. The whole body is full of nervous endings and their complete blocking is nearly impossible. The only thing you can do is to limit signal arrival through skin by covering a part of the body. The simplest and the most effective way to do that is to use thick gloves so that the Submissive could not take any objects and to touch them.

The most complicated way to limit feel of touch is to envelope the whole body with bandage or plastic film - this is called mummification. As well you can use latex or vinyl costumes which as well limit the skin's ability to feel touch, but do not block it completely.

What else can you do?

After you have experimented with various ways of sensory deprivation you can combine them. You can deprive your Submissive of two or more senses simultaneously by using various BDSM toys and accessories. For example you can use at once such BDSM toys as a mask and ear plugs. The Submissive becomes even more helpless so you have more control over him. You both get more enjoyment!
