Why do men pay for sex?

Most men who visit prostitutes cannot be characterized by one common feature. Ronald Weitzer, a sociology professor at George Washington University and editor of the book "Sex for Sale: Prostitution, Pornography and the Sex Industry" said that men of different age, race, religion and educational level pay for sex.

The research showed that around 17 percent of Americans admitted to paying for sex. Weitzer said that this number is considerably higher and about 50 percent of those who visit prostitutes are married.

One of the prostitutes in Northen Ohio who called herself Kaitlin said that most men are aged between 45 to 65 . She also explains that a lot of men who visit her are motivated by a desire to feel special to whom she can give her attention. Others may suffer from such conditions as erectile dysfunction and are in search for a companionship.

Sex worker Layla from Cleveland said that many clients want to try particular fetish knowing their wives won't do it. In some cases the disabled wife otherwise want to make sure her husband is satisfied, allowing him to have sex with prostitutes.

According to Quantcast, a web site that tracks traffic at other web sites, most men who pay for sex are aged 25 to 54 are college graduates and earn more than $100,000 a year. According to sex workers most of these men need a companion or a friend, someone to talk to and listen to them.
