15.03.2007 Sex-ed Teacher Removed for Too Spicy Lesson![]() A Suburban Ñhicago school board dismissed a health-instructor whose sex-ed class seemed too spicy to some parents of 8th-grades. Last week Scott Groff, a second-year sex-ed teacher at Wolcott School in Thornton Illinois gave a lesson to 8th-grades during which he used study aides that included thorough information about masturbation, finding the g-spot, performing oral sex and other spicy issues together with tips that were read aloud in class. This „sexually explicit“ material was downloaded from a British charity fighting AIDS. Naturally, parents of the 8th-grade were not glad to learn that their children get so thorough practical information about what adults are doing in bed when they are not sleeping. Angry parents began to complain to the school's board calling the incident „gross negligence“ which „opened a Pandora's box for parents“. In response the board canceled all sex-ed studies and offered counseling to parents and students who felt traumatized by the incident. In the meantime the main hero of the scandal Mr. Groff will be placed on paid leave without renewing his contract. Now the school has neither a sex-ed teacher nor a curriculum to give the students information on most fundamental function of life. Is it logical to suppose that the board thinks that no sex-education is better than too profound one? If not, than what does an appropriate sex education should imply: no more than AIDS, human development and abstinence or something more, like intimate intricacies of sexual relations? This question is still to be answered. .: News Archive :. |
