Number of PSAS Sufferers Growing in Japan

The number of Japanese women suffering from (or enjoying) a strange disease making them orgasm for many times a day is constantly growing, according to Shukan Post. This illness is called persistent sexual arousal syndrome.

Women with this syndrome are always ready to make love. It is enough to touch such a woman's shoulder and she feels like she is going to orgasm. These women cannot even go to the toilet without getting very aroused.

Even vibration of their mobile phones or driving car make them feel like being stimulated their erogenous zones, to say nothing of real sexual stimulation which causes them to orgasm for an enormous number of times during sexual intercourse.

What is Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome?

Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) was first documented in 2001. It is characterized as spontaneous and persistent genital arousal which has no relation to sexual desire or even thinking about sex.

Normally, to achieve orgasm a woman needs to have some sexual stimulation, no matter what it is - manual stimulation, oral stimulation or stimulation with a sex toy. Such stimulation causes nerves located around female genitals to react appropriately: growing arousal results in orgasm.

However, with PSAS women, for an unknown reason women orgasm regardless of external sexual stimulation.

Causes and Treatment

There are some reasons supposed, one of them being irregularity in the sensory nerves. As well PSAS can be a side effect of some drugs such as trazodone (in this case it is enough to stop taking the drug for relief). As well the disorder can be resulted from discontinuation of SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - a class of antidepressants). In some cases PSAS was caused by a pelvic artaerial-venous malformation which was successfully treated surgically. But still with some causes revealed there is not much known about the sundrome. This considerably complicates the treatment.

In other cases, when the cause is not revealed the symptoms of PSAS can be reduced by use of some antidepressant drugs or antiandrogenic agents. As well psychoteraphy can be used for PSAS treatment.

Persistent sexual arousal syndrome should not be confused with hypersexuality or nymphomania, as nymphomania implies constant willingness to have sex without getting relief from it. Unlike nymphomaniacs who never orgasm, women suffering from PSAS can orgasm for dozens of times a day. A woman even reported having about 300 orgasms a day - this is about 5 orgasms per hour - could this woman do anything else besides calculating her orgasms?

Sufferers - poor or lucky?

According to Dr. Sandra Leiblum (PSAS discoverer), usually persistent sexual arousal syndrome affects post-menstrual women who have undergone hormonal treatment. However, the doctor adds that there have been cases reported among younger women (of about 30). As well Leiblum stresses that the fact that the syndrome is not studied enough prevents women from reporting their abnormality.

Indeed, though women with PSAS might seem lucky, especially to those who have difficulties with achieving orgasm, they do need treatment and support. The most awful thing about this disease is that it is not studied enough and no cure for it has been found yet.

What is more, many women who suffer from this syndrome are not aware of it and of the fact that they are not the only such sufferers in the world. They are ashamed of going to doctors as they do not know that their disorder is characterized as a distinct syndrome. Some them being very tired of persistent sexual arousal which prevents them from normal living even report being about to commit suicide.

Thanks to the Internet, awareness in Japan of PSAS is growing thus giving women hope to get relief from this debilitating illness one day. Nevertheless, doctors state that level of awareness is still too low.

Physician Yamanaka insists that women should not suffer or try to cope with persistent sexual arousal syndrome themselves. The doctor calls for all women who have even the slightest suspicion to apply to a gynecologist or neurologist without hesitation. There is nothing shameful about this disorder. Get treatment for happy living!
