Hypersexuality

Some of the common information that comes to human sexuality can be a bit vague or unclear. Concerns about high or low libido or relative and depend on the individual. Someone can have a very active and satisfying sex life and still feel that something is wrong in their life while someone else can feel fairly confident in themselves even though they aren’t very active sexually. Situations like these are known as hypersexuality.

What is hypersexuality?

Hypersexuality or erotomania describes a high sexual drive and high sexual activity. The two main forms of hypersexuality are nymphomania (female hypersexuality) and satyriasis (male hypersexuality).

Nymphomania is a pathological sex drive that is characterized by a constant urge to have sex. Women who are called nymphomaniacs usually have compulsive behaviors. The difference between a nymphomaniac and a woman with a high libido is that the nymphomaniac tends to be very promiscuous. They have sex with multiple partners irrespective of age, sex or appearance. They tend to have numerous sexual contacts, use sex toys and never seem satisfied enough.

Satyriasis is the excessive sex drive in men. Men with satyriasis usually have a very active sex life. Like nymphomaniacs, men with satyriasis don’t ever feel satisfied sexually.

Both forms of hypersexuality have some similarities:
- Men and women aren’t able to control their behavior
- Often sexual encounters aren’t very satisfying
- The conditions often impact other sides of daily life (relationship problems, social interaction, etc.)

A case was recorded where a woman had 15 sexual encounters in a day and she still felt unsatisfied. Some hypersexual women can have ordinary intercourse. After achieving an orgasm they are ready to experience more of them. There have been cases where women have climaxed immediately after the man inserted his penis and still had multiple orgasms after 3-4 minutes of intercourse. Imagine all the sex toys and partners these women could go through?

Hypersexual men can keep an erection for a very long time and they can even be stimulated by the slightest arousal. They have been known to participate in orgies and they can be pathological masturbators. Their hormone levels are easily renewed which causes them to have sexual urges over and over again.

Why does one become hypersexual?

Often hypersexuality is triggered by hypothalamus disorders that occur after various neuroinfections such as encephalitis, meningitis and brain tumors. Hormonal dysfunctions are common cause of hypersexuality. Usually people with erotomania have psychological problems. They may have an inferiority complex, low self-esteem and aren’t confident in their sexual abilities which makes them feel they have more and more to prove.

The most important thing to remember is that nymphomania and satyriasis is often a state where a person can’t get satisfaction. Obsessive behavior rules over common sense and excessive sexual drive isn’t a bonus.
